Love this dish but due to short shelf life of the dodka, has to be made asap after it is bought. so we make it about every 3-4 weeks.
Toor daal 3/4th cup
2 big tender ridge gourds
Tomato 1big one
Garlic 4 medium ones, finely chopped
Curry leaves 8 pieces
Cook toor daal with 2 cups of water. I do not pressure cook it.
Wash and peel the ridge gourd, rinse again, chop into smaller pieces. Add
them with the daal to cook them till tender.
Add oil in a frying pan, do fodni with mustard, hing, curry leaves and garlic.
Once garlic is browned, add turmeric and chilli powder. Add tomatoes, cook till tender. Mix in with the daal and gourd. Salt to taste, serve it with plain rice.
I have also tried making the gourd with white vatana that is pressure cooked. Tastes pretty good that way too.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!
